>Martin O’Neil leaves Aston Villa

>Martin O’Neil has left Champions League contenders Aston Villa with immediate effect. It is believed he is frustrated with the clubs seeming lack of ambition, and the inevitable sale of James Milner to Man City.

This news is massively worrying for Villa fans, who had hoped that their team could continue to build on the three top 6 finishes and Carling Cup final that O’Neil had led them too. It really does show a worrying lack of ambition from the Midlands side though, and emphasises the gulf between those who qualify for the Champions League, and those who don’t.

It is unlikely that the former Leicester City and Celtic boss will get a new job in the near future, and this must be a massive disruption to Villa’s pre season preparation. Furthermore, it wouldn’t surprise VN if Ashely Young followed Milner out the door. Aston Villa start against West Ham on Saturday, and could be in for a very frustrating season.
