>Can’t the Daily Express go back to Princess Diana stories?

>

Above is the front page of today’s Daily Express, passing particularly inept comment on a judge granting asylum to people who’s life is threatened in their own country due to their homosexuality.
You will also notice, i’m sure, the crass comment from the judge that makes up the subheading. While I commend the judge for his ruling, the way he expressed it only furthers outdated and offensive stereotypes.  After what I am lead to believe was an excellent Pride event in London last weekend, it is sad that such an ugly portrayal of the gay community has reared its head once again.

Personally I am proud to live in a country that refuses to send people to their death because of who they are attracted too. It is so important for the legal system in a civilised society to allow it to protect those that come seeking help. Without this compassion, we wouldn’t be very civilised at all.

For the Daily Express to try and turn this into an “our borders’ are open” story is ridiculous. Their hacks  should go back to writing conspiracy theories about Princess Diana’s car crash, and leave reporting important news stories to others who are able to do so properly.

  1. >Just to point out that comment was selective, the whole quote isn't great, but I don't it would be classed as offensive, article http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/why-the-supreme-court-ruled-against-the-deportation-of-gay-asylumseekers-2021227.htmlquote: 'Lord Rodger said the normal behaviour of gay people must be protected as it was for heterosexual people."What is protected is the applicant's right to live freely and openly as a gay man. To illustrate the point with trivial stereotypical examples from British society: just as male heterosexuals are free to enjoy themselves playing rugby, drinking beer and talking about girls with their mates, so male homosexuals are to be free to enjoy themselves going to Kylie concerts, drinking exotically coloured cocktails and talking about boys with their straight female mates."
